New York City's 401st birthday, in the subway

The city turned 400 last year and nobody threw it a party, so we threw one for the 401st! On a Sunday afternoon on the downtown 6 platform, we hosted guest lectures from Gary Dennis on the history of the subway, David Foster on the worst pizza in New York, Dahlia Ramsay on a mapping of public earnestness, Al Mullen from Public Transit Magazine, and us on why 400 and 1 is worth celebrating. We also held a costume contest — come as your favorite New Yorker — with original Data Vandals artwork as prizes, and we live-streamed the whole thing. A few weeks later, in July, we followed it with our first movie night: The Warriors, the greatest documentary about New York City ever made.
